This Is Gold: A Real-World Morning with Sugarbot Notes, an AI Dental Scribe Built for the Clinic

This morning started as it usually does — I stopped for coffee down the street from my house even though I didn't have the time. I got to the office, donned my scrubs and loupes as quickly as possible, and headed in to see my first patient. Except the patient, having just had an RCT completed with a local endodontist, knew he needed a crown but was still unsure what other treatment had been recommended by a previous provider. Classic — he had already started to go down the road to save a tooth and had no idea what he should do about abscessed teeth, some with previous RCTs, some under bridges. What should he do? Implants? RPDs? Was it that bad?
I asked if I could record the exam for note-taking purposes and he agreed. I had my phone on me still, so I pulled up Sugarbot Notes and recorded a Universal SOAP note. Sugarbot Notes is an AI-powered dental scribe that captures your exam in real time and generates a complete clinical note and patient treatment summary — on your computer or phone. I didn't change how I spoke or what I spoke about, other than perhaps holding myself accountable to be clear and thorough. I'm not terribly methodical and can get ahead of myself — that didn't change. But I covered it all, and he was appreciative of the information but still overwhelmed. I told him we could do the crown today — the distal of the pre-existing amalgam had come out exposing the endo sponge. Thankfully an orifice barrier was there and no GP was exposed. With a tap I had my AI-generated dental note. One more click and I had a PDF to print and drop off before heading to Op 1 for a post-op. That's the beauty of clinical note automation — all I had to do was walk to the printer.
When I came back to anesthetize my patient looked at me incredulously and said "This is gold! This would've been so much easier if I had this last time!" I wish it had been captured to use in an infomercial. Alas, the cameras were not rolling, so I thought it would be fun to memorialize here. Very rarely is something you create — especially dental documentation software — unanimously celebrated by all members of the office and patients alike. As dental AI tools go, this one feels huge. These types of responses are especially motivating. Maybe a close second is the snap of the floss on a class II composite.
Beyond all else we are energized by our colleagues using our software and hearing their reactions. It has been incredible to get messages about the impact this dental AI scribe has immediately made — we would love nothing more than to hear from you directly about what this has done for your practice. Please try Sugarbot Notes and reach out.
