What about recording laws and patient consent?
Sugarbot Notes uses audio recording to capture clinical information, but recording laws vary by state. Most states are "one-party consent," meaning only one person involved (e.g., the provider) needs to consent. Some states require "all-party consent," meaning everyone being recorded must agree.
One-party consent states: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CO, DC, GA, HI, ID, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MN, MS, MO, NE, NJ, NM, NY, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WI, WY
All-party consent states: CA, DE, FL, IL, MD, MA, MI, MT, NV, NH, PA, WA (Vermont may effectively require all-party consent based on case law.)
Regardless of your state's laws, we encourage all practices to inform patients that they are being recorded. Many practices include a brief statement about recording in their intake forms or consent paperwork for transparency and peace of mind.
